They can help guide you through procedures, fill out forms, and communicate with hospital staff.\u00a0<br><br>You may bring a friend\/family member\/partner\/support person. <\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"rights-link-756\" class=\"sh-link rights-link sh-hide\"><a href=\"#\" onclick=\"showhide_toggle('rights', 756, 'What are my rights?', 'Show less...'); return false;\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><span id=\"rights-toggle-756\">What are my rights?<\/span><\/a><\/div><div id=\"rights-content-756\" class=\"sh-content rights-content sh-hide\" style=\"display: none;\"><strong><br><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The visit is <strong>confidential.\u00a0<\/strong><br><br>If you have drugs and alcohol in your system, you cannot be prosecuted for this (this is different from having drugs on your person, i.e. in your pocket, bag, etc.)\u00a0<br><br>Everything as far as treatment\/intervention is concerned, must be done with you expressed consent. <strong>You may refuse any part of the procedure<\/strong>.\u00a0<br><br>If the survivor cannot express consent, hospital staff will do the best they can to wait until the person can consent, but they will treat immediate medical needs and also collect \u201cevidence\u201d that might be lost were they to wait (nothing will be done with this \u201cevidence\u201d until the person does\/does not consent for it to be given to the police). <\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"card-link-756\" class=\"sh-link card-link sh-hide\"><a href=\"#\" onclick=\"showhide_toggle('card', 756, 'I don\\'t have a healthcare card\/ID\/status', 'Show less...'); return false;\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><span id=\"card-toggle-756\">I don&#039;t have a healthcare card\/ID\/status<\/span><\/a><\/div><div id=\"card-content-756\" class=\"sh-content card-content sh-hide\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Anyone at the <strong>Montr\u00e9al General<\/strong> (emergency room) will be seen. You will have to fill out extra paperwork without medicare.\u00a0\u00a0<br><br>if you don\u2019t have ID the <strong>Montr\u00e9al General Hospital <\/strong>they will take your name, etc. and ask you to pay up front if you can; however,\u00a0they will still see you if you can\u2019t pay.<br><br>Even if you are non-status, anyone going to emergency has to be given medical attention. <\/div>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"visit-link-756\" class=\"sh-link visit-link sh-hide\"><a href=\"#\" onclick=\"showhide_toggle('visit', 756, 'What will\/can the visit include?', 'Show less...'); return false;\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><span id=\"visit-toggle-756\">What will\/can the visit include?<\/span><\/a><\/div><div id=\"visit-content-756\" class=\"sh-content visit-content sh-hide\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One can receive these types of treatments\/tests:&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>STI testing<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Toxicological Screening<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pregnancy testing&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trousse M\u00e9dicolegale (forensic evidence \u201ckit\u201d)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Trousse M\u00e9dicosociale (mental\/social evaluation)&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>During medical exams, people are treated on a case-by-case basis, i.e. parts of a person&#8217;s body that do not need to be examined\/were not involved in the situation or experience(s) of sexual assault (to the best of the person&#8217;s knowledge) will not be examined.\u00a0<br><br>You may decide to fill out the Trousse M\u00e9dicolegale and M\u00e9dicosociale kits without pursuing an investigation. Nothing will be given to the police without express consent from the survivor\u00a0<br><br>The trousse m\u00e9dicolegale (physical \u201cevidence\u201d) can be held for up to 14 days to allow someone who has been sexually assaulted time to decide if they do or do not want it to be given to the police\/take legal action. If they decide not to, the physical evidence is destroyed and only the forms and one slide will be kept in their medical file \u2013 these things can be used should the person decide later that they do want to take legal action as there is currently no statute of limitations on sexual assault (i.e. it is never \u201ctoo late&#8221; after the fact to bring a case to court). <\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:42px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading has-neve-link-color-color has-text-color\">If you would like to file a police report<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><em>If you report an assault to a police station immediately, officers are generally instructed to take you to one of the medical centres listed above.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div id=\"where-link-756\" class=\"sh-link where-link sh-hide\"><a href=\"#\" onclick=\"showhide_toggle('where', 756, 'Where should I go?', 'Show less...'); return false;\" aria-expanded=\"false\"><span id=\"where-toggle-756\">Where should I go?<\/span><\/a><\/div><div id=\"where-content-756\" class=\"sh-content where-content sh-hide\" style=\"display: none;\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/spvm.qc.ca\/en\/PDQ\ufeff\">This Webpage<\/a> will identify your neighbourhood police station.\u00a0<br><br>The contact number for the Montreal Sexual Crimes Unit is: 514-280-2079<br><br>The Office for Sexual Violence Response, Support, and Education (<a href=\"http:\/\/mcgill.ca\/osvrse\">OSVRSE<\/a>) at McGill has a relationship with Montreal Police. As long as the event occurred in Quebec, you may contact the OSVRSE to have your report taken in their office with their support instead of going to a station. You do not have to take an interview with a detective if you do not want to.
