Outreach

Hello and welcome to the Outreach portion of the website! The Outreach branch of SACOMSS educates and raises awareness about sexual assault and related issues at McGill and in Montreal. We facilitate discussions in schools and community groups, and are also involved in specific programs like the Rez Project and Awareness through Art. An outreach is meant to create a safe space and to open up a forum for discussion of a subject that is all too often deemed "taboo" and not talked about in public. Thank you for your interest, and enjoy the site!

For more information about what an outreach is, please check out the Frequently Asked Questions as well as a newspaper article about us in the Montreal Gazette.

If you are interested in booking an Outreach for your group or your school, please check out the Teacher's information package (online soon!) and contact our Networkers to arrange for a date and time. Our email is outreach@sacomss.org and our phone number is 514-398-8500.

If you are interested in volunteering, please call the Center at the beginning of Fall semester. The Outreach branch only trains volunteers once a year.

Community Links

Community Links provides workshops to Mcgill student groups as well as other groups in the Montreal community who wish to be trained. Our workshops are tailored to the needs of the individual group, but generally focus on sexual assault sensitivity and/or issues related to gender and power. We also provide workshops on effective active listening and on how to help survivors of sexual assault in crisis situations.

Everyone can benefit from a sexual assault sensitivity workshop. Workshops range from the introductory to in-depth discussions covering such topics as the power imbalances that perpetuate sexual assault in society. If you're not sure that we would help your group, please give us a call, and we'll see if we can work something out.

All of our workshops are provided free of charge. Please contact SACOMSS to request a workshop and the Community Links team will get back to you as soon as possible.

Rez Project

Along with the Trans/Gender Alliance and Queer McGill, Community Links helps coordinate Rez Project. Over September, we provide 2 hour, mandatory workshops to all students entering their first year at McGill and living in residence. Students attend the workshops with their Floor Fellow and fellow students/neighbours. We facilitate discussion on issues related to sexual assault and build awareness of queer and transgender issues.

SACOMSS services are anonymous and of a supportive nature. We do not provide therapy or private counselling.
